Ecumenical

Charis is an ecumenical Christian community witnessing to unity across the divides of Northern Ireland’s communities.

We work for the unity  expressed in Jesus' prayer in John 17:21,

“That they might be one, so that the world might believe.”

Charis members belong to a variety of Church traditions and are committed to following the teachings of those Churches. While respecting differences,  we seek to have as much common life and common witness as possible.

Trans-Generational

It has been said that the true test of a Christian community is whether its life, call, and mission can be passed on from generation to generation.

Our call is not to be a one-generation community, but to  pass on the way of life God has given us across the generations: grandparents, parents, and  children, all live the life we have together in Charis.

Covenant

Charis is a covenant community. The love we have for each other is founded on a covenant commitment: “whether I like it or not, whether it is convenient or not, for better or worse, in sickness and health,  I am committed to be a brother or sister to all who share in this covenant commitment.”
